Career Guidance

  • private girls school west brisbane
Structured career guidance and advice begins in Year 10 with an Education Planning and Assessment Program for each student. In addition, students have one-on-one career development session with the School’s Careers Advisor.

Through a career testing process, our Advisor assists students to identify their strengths and abilities, areas of interest and distinctive personal style. Possible career goals, along with school performance and senior subjects are also discussed. A Senior Education and Training Plan (SET Plan) is then developed for each student. Throughout Year 11 and 12 the School conducts regular performance reviews to ensure each student is achieving her personal best. In their final year, students meet with the Careers Advisor to discuss tertiary planning and options.

Mentoring Program

A Mentoring Program is offered for Seniors, where each student is assigned to meet and work with a Senior Teacher mentor. Several one-on-one sessions take place over the course of Years 11 and 12, and are aimed at tracking progress, and supporting each girl to achieve her fullest potential. During these sessions, students are encouraged to share their educational journey, set and review goals, ensuring they are on track for success. Another component of the Mentoring Program is the annual ‘Career Insight’ event which highlights the achievements of our past students. Panels of past students in different stages of their careers are welcomed back to the School in an open forum to talk to the girls.

Tertiary Partnerships

Stuartholme partners with universities and private providers to host an annual ‘Careers Expo’. This event provides an opportunity for students to broaden their career awareness, by thinking about and discussing their tertiary options in an intimate and familiar school environment. It is also a valuable forum for sourcing information about university opportunities outside of their open days. The School partners with various tertiary institutions to support, guide and enable students to determine their tertiary options, based on their interests and skills. Different lecturers from a range of universities talk to Senior students throughout the year about study options and pathways. To extend their knowledge and get a ‘head start’ on their tertiary studies, Senior students have the opportunity to complete a university subject in the final year of their schooling. Some programs offered include: the University of Queensland (UQ) ‘Enhanced Studies Program’ (ESP); the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) ‘Start QUT Program’; the Griffith University GUESTS Program; and the University of Southern Queensland (USQ) ‘Head Start Program’.

Tertiary Scholarships

Stuartholme is a proud partner of the Bond University Collegiate Partner Program. As part of this partnership Bond University offers up to two Excellence scholarships to each of their Collegiate Partner schools each year. All Excellence Scholarships cover 50 percent tuition for any single or approved combined undergraduate degree combination (excluding the Bond Medical Program) and are awarded to students who demonstrate high academic achievement, significant leadership skills and strong community involvement. USQ also offers Senior students access to the Principal’s Recommendation Program. Students who are recommended for the Program are guaranteed a place at USQ and considered for the Vice-Chancellor’s Principal’s Recommendation Scholarships which cover the cost of tuition up to $24,500.
